I wasn’t sure what to do. It seemed beyond my time limitations and capacity, and honestly, I wasn’t sure if I was smart enough to take it on. And then my heart spoke to me. I took a deep breath and said “yes.”
Every spring for five years, I had been asked to teach a Scholar class. That was an easy “no.” Now, sitting in a board meeting for our commonwealth, I listened as the women I looked up to expressed who they had become because they taught these classes. As I listened, I felt a stir from within. The next day, when I was asked to teach a Scholar class, I took a deep breath and said “yes.”
We have all experienced crossroads in our lives. Although it’s tempting to take the easier path, staying complacent will never help us become who we were meant to be.
And you have not chosen the easier path, either. You have taken on a calling to teach your children without compensation and, most days, even appreciation. Your days are long, and it often feels impossible to ever catch up. Oh, how I know those days!
What did I learn from deciding to teach teens?
- I actually enjoy teaching youth!
- There is a better way than a worksheet.
- It is possible to engage and inspire students in every class.
- Class should be fun and something both my students and I look forward to.
- I can do hard things.
I created Trick Your Kids – Learning the Fun Way because of a need. As a former elementary school teacher, I understood how an effective classroom runs. I had spent years searching for co-op resources and was unable to find what I was looking for. So, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. If you are looking for:
- Creative
- Engaging and fun
- Well-researched, plus simplified for understanding
- Mostly easy or no-prep, ready-to-go
- Many one-day lessons, simulations, games, and activities
Look no further!
I know you are busy! I specialize in creating resources that don’t take your whole week to prepare. With a variety of topics, there is something for everyone.
I also believe in the power of positive peer pressure. Learning with and motivating each other in a group setting is why I taught group classes at my co-op while also teaching at home. With over 20 years of experience, I know these resources can bless your family and community too.
I hope you’ll join me ❤️
