This “Leadership in Writing” course has students explore some of the most influential writings and to see how the written word impacts them and their world.  The course focuses on many aspects of actual writing and students learn and practice the writing process and many other things that make them ready for any writing they will need to do in the future.

The cost for the mentor manual is $50.

Description

In this course the student will gain an appreciation for how writing has influenced humanity. Each student will document study influential writings and participate in group discussions to learn about why they were written, who wrote them and why they were influential.  The student will learn how to write various styles of essays.  They will learn and practice how to diagram and outline in preparation for an essay, the proper format of a clear and cohesive paper, how to source in MLA format,  how to recognize credible sources and to cite these sources effectively, and many other things within the writing process. Ultimately the student will be able to see how they can influence the world through their own writings in pursuit of their individual missions.  Classes are full of activities to engage the student and topics that will be useful throughout the students life.

This course is  targeted to the Scholar Phase student (ages 12+). The course is divided into two 15 week semesters, having one class each week.  Lesson plans consist of an outline for the class, including a warm-up activity,  assigned Document Studies, the actual documents or place to find them, a lecture topic and  suggested activities to reinforce what is being learned.

This class is FUN and ENGAGING- everyone participates!

    This class has really helped my be interested in writing. look at how writing is used and pay attention to how writing affects people. It has also taught me a lot of technical aspects for my own personal writing. The class keeps my attention and I like the fun activities.
