Description

Inkheart is a year-long literature and writing curriculum designed to help teenagers discover that their voice matters and their words can build something good in the world.

Great writing begins long before students put words on a page. It begins with observation, reflection, meaningful questions, and the courage to engage honestly with important ideas. Inkheart helps students develop those habits through great literature, thoughtful discussion, principle-based experiences, and purposeful writing.

Built around the Seven Principles for a Life That Builds—Individual Worth, Agency, Christlike Character, Allegiance, Servant Leadership, Consecration, and Unity—Inkheart invites students to explore timeless questions through stories, essays, speeches, and reflective writing. Rather than focusing solely on grammar and mechanics, students learn to write with clarity, purpose, conviction, and heart.

Throughout the course, students participate in:

• Literature discussions that encourage thoughtful engagement with great books

• Writing instruction that develops both skill and confidence

• Principle-based activities and simulations that bring ideas to life

• Reflective writing that connects literature to personal experience

• Meaningful conversations that strengthen communication and critical thinking

For mentors, Inkheart is designed to remove the burden of creating lessons from scratch. Each lesson is fully developed and classroom-tested, with discussion questions, activities, writing instruction, mentor notes, debriefs, and invitations to act already prepared. Whether you are an experienced mentor or leading discussions for the first time, Inkheart provides a clear framework for creating engaging and meaningful classes.

For more than ten years, Inkheart has been taught, refined, and enjoyed in homeschool co-ops and commonwealth communities. Every lesson has been shaped through real classroom experience, resulting in a curriculum that is both practical to teach and deeply meaningful for students.

Instead of spending hours planning lessons, mentors can focus on what matters most: building relationships, guiding discussion, encouraging growth, and helping students discover the power of their own voice.
