Description
The world is full of different reasons to write. It is a key of communication that can take many forms. It can make people laugh, cry, think, and become inspired. It is a voice that has the potential to reach farther and last longer than our physical limitations allow.
This Love of Learning style class will introduce 8-12 year old students to a variety of writing skills. This class will start with different styles of comics, moving on through writing picture books, poetry, and opinion papers. The students will have the opportunity to create a class newspaper, and will have fun with creative writing and essays. That’s right! Essays can be fun! Students will find their voice, and learn basic grammar, along with discovering authors in different fields studied throughout the year.

I had so much fun mentoring this class for older junior-age kids! This class is all about making writing fun and friendly. It walks kids through writing in many different styles from comics to novels. Part of the class covers getting to know authors of every kind of writing discussed and encourages kids to read as well as write.
My 3rd son was participating in this class when it got shut down due to Covid-19. He was 9 years old. He has written 2 stories with many chapters since then. He was one of the youngest kids in the class and didn’t write much at the beginning of the year, but learned to enjoy making his own stories and sharing them. He is now 10 and I feel he will be better at writing when he begins scholar classes because of the World of Writing curriculum.
