The Art of Teaching takes place on Thursday, June 24, 2021 online via Zoom. Training sessions run from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm Mountain Time. All the necessary information: PDF download with the schedule, session descriptions, certification requirements, and Zoom link will be emailed to you before the event.

This is your opportunity to hone your teaching skills and learn some new ones as well. Our talented presenters look forward to helping you unlock the keys to the Art of Teaching.

Description

The Art of Teaching: Skills Training for Teachers workshop is a full day on Thursday, which includes seven sessions plus the keynote speaker and debrief at the end. We are excited to have Kelli Poll and Melissa Haakenson-Porcaro as our keynote speakers. They will share with us their experience teaching students with ADHD, Aspergers, Dyslexia, and other learning differences. This crucial opening session will help you better reach these students and ensure their integration in our classrooms. Our speakers will share tips, tools, and strategies to better reach these non-traditional learners.

Keynote Address

Reaching Your Non-Traditional Learners by Kelli Poll & Melissa Haakenson-Porcaro

9:00 – 10:30

Students with ADHD, Aspergers, Dyslexia, and other learning differences are integral members of our classrooms.  Our keynote speakers will share tips, tools, and strategies to better reach these non-traditional learners.

 

Class Sessions

Helping Them Succeed: Knowing Our Students’ Motivations, Learning Styles, and Love Languages by Brenda Haws

Knowing how students learn, what motivates them, and how to speak their love language allows teachers to set realistic expectations and set students up for success.  This session will teach you how to better understand your students and how to use that information to everyone’s benefit in the classroom.


The Logistics of Teaching: Setting Yourself Up for Success by Genevieve Arnold

11:45 – 12:30

Learning how to organize your time in the classroom is one of the most important skills a teacher can develop.This session offers tips and tools for scheduling, time management, order of events in the classroom, and much more.


12:30 – 1:00 Lunch

Bringing Your Content to Life by Penny Robinson

1:00 – 1:45

There is more to teaching than lecturing.  Come fill your toolbox with ideas for class activities, simulations, and more (including tips on what makes a great lecture).

Online Teaching by Travis Lish

2:00 – 2:45

Online education caught many of us by surprise and learning how to navigate this new environment of teaching brings lots of challenges.  This session will provide tips and tools to reach our virtual students and help us create a vibrant and effective online experience.

Co-Teaching: How to Become a Dream Team by Emily Jean Nef

3:00 – 3:45 

Working with a co-teacher can be difficult to navigate.  This session will make sure your collaboration is fun, effective, and meaningful.


Teaching the “Why” to Students (K-12 and Beyond) by Sierra Sonners

4:00 – 4:45

Teachers and mentors play an important role in helping students understand their education and the long-term plan for their learning. This session will give you insight in how to include the philosophy behind the subjects that you teach and help students see the big picture.
