The Comedy of Errors – Edited Play
$20.00
7 Female Roles
9 Male Roles
The Comedy of Errors is one of Shakespeare’s earlier plays, and is a lot of fun to perform! I know our cast really enjoyed acting in this wonderful farce, and I hope that your production is a great success, as well.
As with most of Shakespeare’s plays, “The Comedy of Errors” in its original form does not have many women’s roles. But as a director, I like to give female roles to as many girls as I can.
And so, you will notice some major shifting and adding in my version of the play. I have turned the character of “Dr. Pinch” into
“Madame Pinch”, and– unfortunately for him, but happily for her– I have given her his wonderful lines. I also changed the name of the household maid from “Luce” to “Nell,” whom one of the Dromios mentions in the original, though she’s never seen. In our production, Nell was also the narrator.
Sometime in the next life, I fully expect Mr. Shakespeare to track me down and demand why I have taken such liberties with his plays. I will apologize, of course, but I will also remind him of all the material he “borrowed” in his career, and maybe he will forgive me in the end.
Yours truly,
~Mrs. K.

We bought this script for a homeschool production. It preserves the plot beautifully, highlights the comedy and gently teases the play down to a great length- about an hour.
Fabulous product!
