Description

This high school physics curriculum is designed for high school students ages 15 – 18 years old. It is a two-semester class with 30 weeks of lessons. It is meant for use with a small group of high school students in a co-op setting (5-10 students). If there are more than five students in the class, two teachers are recommended.

It is a self-study course with labs and experiments done together in a weekly 2-hour class. The teacher does not need prior experience with physics. The teacher may study and learn right along with their students. Discussions, document studies, and a science fair will also be done as a class.

Students need to understand and commit to doing at least 5 hours of homework outside of class each week. In order to really learn the content, some students may need to spend much more time each week on homework. Completing this course will meet the requirements for one year of high school science with a lab. While not a guarantee, students who learn all the content presented in this course should know most, if not all, of the information tested on an AP Physics exam.  Additional preparation for the AP Physics exam is recommended.

This is a very fun, hands-on class that helps students discover the world of physics for themselves! The material is organized very well – most of the work has been done for you, including lesson plans, experiment supply lists, and YouTube playlists for each lesson!

  2. Laurisa Cope

My son loved this class! All of our family enjoyed helping him prepare the experiments when he was in charge of preparing the experiments for his class because they were such fun experiments. Most of the items required for the experiments were very easy to find. A couple of the items took some time to find and then to arrive, but the experiments were worth the wait. The YouTube playlists are also very helpful! This class provides an excellent mix of challenging material and hands-on experiments that allow students to discover for themselves.

Despite not having a science background, I’m excited to teach the class this fall. The teacher binder is very well organized, and I love the class format of spending so much class time doing hands on experiments. I feel very empowered- that I CAN share physics despite not being a scientist myself.
