This training is for mentors teaching Price of Progress and/or World at War. This virtual training will take place over Zoom on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm MST.

Price of Progress is a 12-week, one semester class focusing on the Industrial Revolution and the Civil War.

World at War is a 16-week, one semester class focusing on World War I, The Great Depression, and World War II.

This training is a combined training for both Price of Progress and World at War. These are both one semester classes and can be combined to make a one-year class.

Description

This training is for mentors teaching Price of Progress and/or World at War. This virtual training will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Price of Progress is a 12-week, one semester class that meets once a week for 2-hour classes. World at War is a 16-week, one semester class that meets once a week for 2-hour classes. 

Price of Progress: 

The 1800’s and the turn of the century saw big changes take place in society and in technological advances. This class focuses on the era of the Industrial Revolution and the Civil War. It includes a study of the tensions and events related to slavery and race relations that occurred during this time. 

World at War: 

World War I, The Great Depression, and World War II are all connected, and the events and reactions to those events affect our life to this day. 

Participants will connect with the people who lived through these times in ways that will impact how they see the world around them. Teachers and students will explore all of this and more through book discussions, class discussions, simulations, document studies, and other activities. Price of Progress is a practice scholar class is a 12-week, one-semester class. World at War is a practice to project scholar class that has content for a 16-week, one semester class. Both of these curricula are planned for classes that will meet once a week for 2 hours. They are recommended for students ages 12 and up. 

This training will walk you through each of the key components to help you gain confidence in your ability to effectively teach these classes.  

PREREQUISITE: Mentors are REQUIRED to take the Mentor Skills Training offered by Curriculum Square on Friday, June 21, 2024, to prepare for this training.
