Description
Hodge Podge /noun/
1. A confused mixture of different things. syn:
mixed bag, assortment, selection, jumble, patchwork
This is a fun class for Transition students that will help them bridge the gap between Love of Learning (LOL) and Scholar Phase. New Scholars who come straight from LOL, can sometimes feel overwhelmed by the idea of doing a presentation in front of their peers or writing a paper every week. Hodge Podge is a way to help! In this class, we take a mixture of skills that Scholars need and begin to introduce them to students in a fun way. This class is typically for 11-year old students, who are preparing to take Scholar classes the following year.

These homework binders for the Hodgepodge class have been great! Each week the students get to report on the homework they chose to do (if any) and get a prize. This keeps the homework at the forefront of all the other students minds.
The variety is great. The students can choose what they are interested in, and don’t have to do all the assignment options. This is a well designed way of encouraging them with positive peer pressure to develop their skills at home.
I had a mother ask me if their was another binder with more assignments because her daughter was doing them so fast and they were so great!
In the future I will buy all the binders, print them out and bring them the first day of class and charge the parents for it. (It took several weeks for all the students to receive the homework binder from their parents.) This will be easier on the mentors, students, and parents!
