Description

Joys of Womanhood or Becoming a Lady – a one semester project (15 weeks)

For Girls 12-14

In this world, it can be hard to define what a woman or a lady is.  In this class you will discuss how to find the beauty that God put inside you!  You will also discuss issues such as skin care and why it is important, ways to dress to enhance their body type, and how personality plays a role in who we are.  You will also have fun hands on lessons about makeup, making soap, lotion bars, and many others.

You will also read the classic book Little Women by Louisa May Alcott .  Each girl will need to obtain a copy of the book so that they can complete the weekly assignments and prepare for class each week.  Each girl will need to read four chapters per week. You will discuss what was read and then have an activity that focuses on one thing from the reading that pertains to growing up and being a girl.

Additional readings will also focus on great ladies from the Bible and history.  Each reading assignment should be done by the week in which it will be discussed.

Each girl will have the chance to earn a charm bracelet during the class.  Each week they will earn charms based on their accomplishments. At the end of the class, it is suggested that the mothers of the students host an etiquette dinner put on after a day at “the spa” as a reward for completing all assignments.

I took this class when I was 12 and it has helped me to feel more confident in myself as I’ve grown up. I’m currently a freshman at BYUI and I couldn’t be more happy. This is because I have a positive image of myself! The great thing about this class is that it gives you a chance to connect with other girls your age and work trough the awkwardness of becoming a woman. Sure, you have the teacher, but what really helps is having someone who is going through the same thing as you! I would really recommend this to anyone who is struggling with having a positive self-image.
