Number The Stars by Lois Lowry follows a family at the beginning of World War II through the rise and fall of the Nazis. Denmark is occupied by the Nazi’s, Annemarie and her family are forced to adjust their life around the occupation. They deal with shortages, store closures, and soldiers on every corner. Their best friends and neighbors, the Rosens, are forced to flee and the family chooses to take a trip to visit a distant uncle. As a family, they overcome lies, loss, and fear up until the occupation ends and everyone is able to return home. This is a small manual designed to support an older child’s Book Club. This resource was designed to be used with Love of Learning and transition to Scholar kids in A Thomas Jefferson Education method or all kids ages 10 to 15 interested in participating in a book club. Included in the packet is discussion questions, hands on activities, essay/opinion paper topics, and quotes for possible memorization.
