Description

Inkheart Mentor Training is highly recommended for anyone planning to mentor the Inkheart curriculum. This interactive training equips homeschool mentors, co-op leaders, and parents to lead transformative literature and writing discussions that help teenagers think deeply, write meaningfully, and develop a strong personal voice.

Many students believe writing is simply about grammar and structure. Great writing, however, begins with great thinking. It grows from meaningful questions, honest reflection, and a willingness to engage deeply with ideas.

Inkheart is built on the belief that literature can do more than entertain—it can help young people discover truth, wrestle with important questions, and learn to express what matters most. This training helps mentors move beyond correcting papers and instead become guides who help students find meaning, develop confidence, and communicate with purpose.

Participants will receive step-by-step guidance through the philosophy, structure, and teaching methods behind the Inkheart curriculum. Whether you are an experienced mentor or leading discussions for the first time, this training will help you create meaningful experiences that inspire growth, connection, and authentic learning.

During the training, mentors will learn how to:

• Lead literature discussions that engage students intellectually, emotionally, and personally

• Help students connect principles from literature to real-life experiences

• Encourage thoughtful participation and meaningful conversation

• Give writing feedback that strengthens writers without discouraging them

• Create a safe environment for vulnerability, reflection, and growth

• Help students develop confidence as thinkers, writers, and communicators

• Mentor students through reflective, principle-based writing assignments

• Facilitate the activities, discussions, and debriefs that make Inkheart memorable and transformative

The training also explores the Seven Principles for a Life That Builds—Individual Worth, Agency, Christlike Character, Allegiance, Servant Leadership, Consecration, and Unity—providing practical strategies for guiding students through each principle and helping them apply these ideas in their own lives.

Designed for homeschool co-ops, discussion groups, and families, Inkheart Mentor Training provides everything mentors need to lead meaningful conversations that help students discover that their voice matters and that their words can build something good in the world.

About Your Trainer

Misty Myer has been homeschooling for over thirty years — all nine of her children, from the very beginning. She built the Aspire ·Inkheart · Impact trilogy not as a curriculum designer, but as a mother asking a question she couldn’t stop thinking about: before my children leave my home, what do I most want them to be equipped with? The courses grew directly out of that question, tested first in her own home and then refined through more than twenty-five years of teaching in co-ops and commonwealths across Oregon and Utah. In that time she has served as Mentor Representative in three different programs — training, supporting, and equipping mentors to do their best work. She lives by the conviction that principles are more powerful than rules, and that young people are capable of far more depth than we usually ask of them. She is genuinely delighted to spend this day with you.
