The Authors of Liberty Mentor Training is highly recommended for anyone considering mentoring this course. Participants will get a full day’s training with the creator of the course, Brooklynn McClure. This comprehensive training will guide prospective mentors step-by-step through everything they need to know to have a fun, inspiring, and successful class with their students. For mentors new to teaching these types of courses, attending the Mentoring Skills Class by Genevieve Arnold during the Art of Teaching weekend is highly recommended.

Date: Saturday, June 24th, 2023

Time: 9 am-3 pm MST with a one-hour lunch break from 12-1

Training will include:

Authors of Liberty vision and overview
Explanation of class materials and suggestions on specific supplies for mentors and students
Explanation of the General Washington’s Rankings, Purple Heart Award, Invention Project, and Constitution Bowl
A full class simulation to experience what your future students will be experiencing during a regular class period
How to plan out and prepare for your year of teaching
Mentoring tips
Guidance on teaching the U.S. Constitution portion of the class, even if you aren’t currently an “expert” in this field of knowledge.
Hands-on activities and how to keep students engaged and enthusiastic about the material
Highlights of the class content
How to make the most of your class resources
Question & Answer opportunities

Prior to training, future mentors should complete the following:

Bring necessary materials for taking notes during the training.
Purchase and familiarize themselves with the Author’s of Liberty Teacher’s Manual. (Jot down any questions you may have and bring them to the training.)
Purchase Little Britches: Father and I were Ranchers by Ralph Moody.
- Come to training having read Chapters 1-4
Complete the Mentor Training Duties and the Mentor Training Mission Assignments before coming to training. These will be sent to you upon registering for training.
- These Duties and Mission Assignments mimic what your students will be expected to complete each week.
Bring materials for building your Character House (a page from the Student Manual which will be sent to you upon registration for training).
- You may begin building your Character House prior to training or work on it during training with the class.
- This activity is in the curriculum as an Extra Service Duty which may be completed as part of earning the prestigious Purple Heart Award at the end of the Authors of Liberty course.
