Description
This class is a basic humanities class more than an art history class, and so while discussing art with the scholars there should be more of an emphasis on what these works teach about humanity and how they have shaped society than on names or dates. The focus of this class is to both help the scholars understand and recognize artwork in the world around them, and to understand the world as a whole and themselves better through experiencing that art. They will also be able to experience creating different types of artworks that are being learned about in class. However, this is not intended to be a drawing or painting class. Different art mediums will be used in the projects and homework assignments, but the level of competence that each student has with those mediums doesn’t matter. Scholars of any artistic level can learn about and practice creativity with different forms of art. The work done by each scholar should be evaluated based on how well they learned about and applied the lesson material and the principles of design to their artwork, and not based on their individual level of artistic ability.
